President John Evans Atta Mills yesterday commended the Chinese government for supporting the country's development agenda.
Making the commendation when he received a Chinese delegation, led by the Minister of Commerce, Mr Chen Deming, at the Castle, Osu in Accra, the President said he would officially register appropriately the country's appreciation of assistance received from China in his State of the Nation Address today.
The delegation is in the country to finalise loan agreements resulting from discussions which President Mills had with his Chinese counterpart during his visit to China last year.
The visit of the delegation is also intended to promote trade and commerce between the two coun tries.
The President said Ghana was witnessing massive transformation in respect of infrastructure development across the country partly because of China's support for "our development efforts".
"The whole of my State of the Nation Address will centre on water, education; the two universities in the Volta and Brong Ahafo regions, the regional hospitals, the new markets and the stadium in the Central Region and oil which are all being supported by China," he stressed.
The President said the visit of the delegation to seal the deal truck between Ghana and China last year was a clear manifestation of the strong ties between the two countries.
"I must register that China has stood with us through thick and thin when everyone has deserted us. It is heart-warming that you have sustained these relations and continue to stand with us," he stressed.
President Mills expressed delight that the ties between the two countries would know no bounds, adding, "This is our turning point, hoping that our relations will not be the same."
He used the occasion to extend an invitation to President Hu Jintao of China to visit Ghana, underscoring his personal relationship with him dating from the time both were Vice-Presidents of their respective countries.
Mr Chen, for his part, lauded the government for its transparency and good governance and pledged to hold meetings with the ministers of Finance and Trade on what projects to finance and how to promote trade in the country.
He announced that a team of Chinese technical people would soon be in the country to assess work on the Cape Coast Sports Stadium for work to commence on that project.
He extended the felicitation of the Chinese President to President Mills, stressing how delighted President Hu Jintao was about President Mills's leadership style.
