Some residents of Madina near Accra are accusing former Housing Minister Boniface Saddique of contributing to the flooding situation in the area. The area was one of the hardest hit by last Tuesday’s heavy downpour. Some affected residents have told Joy News the drains in front of Mr. Saddique’s house obstruct the free flow of water, thereby causing flooding. But Boniface Saddique has described their complaints as baseless. He said the drains were constructed in 1995 when he was neither a minister nor a politician – he became a minister only in 2007. Alhaji Saddique said he had nothing to do with the construction of the drains as he was an ordinary resident just like anyone else and that the suggestion he used his political clout to influence the design of the drains in such a way as to cause flooding for neighbours was a wicked lie. He said since 1995 when the area experienced destructive floods, “never have we experienced any floods until what happened [Tuesday.]” Source: Joy News/Ghana
