The Chairman of the New Patriotic Party Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey has dismissed claims that some bigwigs in his party attempted to bribe a prosecution witness in the popular Amina bus rape case. A prosecution witness last Friday testified in court that counsel for the accused sent him to some NPP stalwarts who offered him 90 thousand Ghana cedis as bribe to corroborate Amina’s story. The claim by the prosecution witness last Friday gave a new twist to the story which has generated enormous headlines since it broke months ago. Since the AG’s department mounted a prosecution against Amina Mohammed, both the NPP and the NDC have been accused of being somewhat too interested in the story. Government has long accused opposition elements of attempting to discredit the Mills administration by concocting the story. The accusation perhaps came full circle when the prosecution witness said counsel for the Amina Mohammed, Prof. Ken Attafua sent him to some NPP stalwarts to be bribed. Prof. Attafuah believes the AG’s department influenced the witness. The NPP chairman on his part described the allegations as pure propaganda designed to discredit his party. He is convinced the witness will be exposed during cross-examination and hopes he will be charged for perjury. Meanwhile, MP for Assin North, Ken Agyapong, who was also accused by the prosecution witness of being part of the plot, has threatened to go to court to clear his name. Source: Joy News/Ghana
