Relatives of Ghanaians in Libya say they have been having sleepless nights after the uprising in that country.
Some of the relatives who have been trooping to the studios of Adom FM say they don’t know the fate of their loved ones.
A delegation from the Western Region representing some of the families stormed the premises of Adom FM on Tuesday to appeal to the government to exepedite the evacuation of Ghanaian nationals from Libya.
Already 55 of the stranded Ghanaians out of the estimated 10,000 have returned to Ghana but the circumstances under which they came have been contested.
Initial reports suggested the returnees were brought in by the collaborative effort of the government task force charged with the responsibility of a successful evacuation but it has emerged that, a Turkish company in Libya which employed the Ghanaians funded the evacuation of 32 of the 55 returnees.
Mohammed Ibrahim, one of the returnees told journalists the Turkish company made arrangements for the flight and funded the trip.
But Deputy Information Minister, Baba Jamal has denied the claim and said the government was largely responsible for the return of the compatriots.
He conceded there are some landing difficulties in Libya, plus other organizational challenges government is facing, explaining that the Turkish company only brought the Ghanaians, who were part of Turkish workers for the company out of Libya to the Tunisia border.
The journey from then was funded by the government of Ghana.
He expressed hope the government would overcome those challenges and evacuate the Ghanaians home safely.
He also explained that government will collaborate with all agencies, institutions and individuals to bring the stranded Ghanaians home.
Over 100 Ghanaians are expected to land at the Kotoka Airport in Accra later Tuesday, while more are expected home through arrangements being made by the government.
In a related development, some of the stranded Ghanaians in Libya have alleged that some people are going round collecting various sums of money from them, under the pretext of helping them to go home.
