One of the two victims of last week's factory explosion at the Western Steel Company in Tema who sustained severe injuries has died at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.
The second person who was also rushed to the hospital in critical condition is responding to treatment.
Thirteen workers suffered various degrees of injury in two separate explosions at the Western Steel Company last week compelling the Ghana Federation of Labour to petition government to shut down the company until it meets required safety standards.
The Secretary General of the Federation, Abraham Koomson who confirmed the death to Joy News said despite the incident, the company is still in operation without any examination on how safe the plants are for it to operate.
He expressed worry about the safety of the workers who operate the plants since the management of the company are only interested in their profits.
“For the employers they want their money; if people will die for them to make their money they do not care”.
Abraham Koomson however hinted that the Ghana Federation of Labour and management of the company are meeting over the matter.
Meanwhile Daniel Duedu of Adom FM who visited the company Wednesday morning described the situation at the factory as a tensed one.
According to him, all exists to the company were closed amidst tight security with most workers tight-lipped.
He said even though he was barred from entering the premises of the factory, he could see fire flaring which indicates that work was in progress.
