Workers in the Judicial Service say they may soon hit the streets or go on strike if allowances due them are not paid. Some of the aggrieved workers, who disclosed this to Adom FM’s Kofi Adoma on condition of anonymity, said there was a serious agitation going on among the workers that could explode if government does not intervene. According to them, Judicial Service workers in the country have not received their fuel allowances since the beginning of the year and to compound the issue, workers in only five regions have been paid their leave allowances which were supposed to be paid between January and February. The regions yet to be paid are Eastern, Brong Ahafo, Volta, Ashanti and the Western Regions. A strike could disrupt the operations of the courts which are already burdened by a huge case backlog. At the beginning of the financial year, the budgetary allocation submitted by the Judiciary to the Executive was slashed down by more than half and that is believed to have accounted for this development.
