Deputy Sports Minister Pius Enam Hadzide believes plans are in place to ensure money given to the Black Starlets are put into good use.

The team finished second at the U-17 African Championship losing narrowly to Mali in Gabon. Despite failing to clinch the title, the team have qualified for the World Cup in India later this year.

According to Joy Sports checks, each player will get $5,000 after placing second at the tournament and Mr. Hadzide believes there have been talks with the management of the team to ensure the money given to the players go into dedicated accounts. 

“Be reminded that these are minors and so we do not want to be seen as spoiling them with money or letting them feel that the greatest motivation towards national assignment is the monetary considerations, they are minors.

“They have their parents or guardians so we are dealing with the management team, their guardians and sponsors to make sure that all the money go into dedicated accounts for the children.  

“We want to plead that parents should invest this money into the future of these players, rather not the time for parents to buy new cars and cloth because their children have some winning bonus”.

The playing body that represented the country comprised of 21 players.
