The Judicial Press Corps has petitioned acting Chief Justice, Justice William Atuguba protesting the attitude of Magistrate Arit Nsemoah to some of its members.
Some journalists were on Thursday, June 15, 2017, prevented from covering the trial of suspects in the murder of the late Member of Parliament for Abuakwa North, Joseph Boakye Danquah-Adu.
The journalists had tried to enter the courtroom when the two suspects, Daniel Asiedu and Vincent Dosso Booso were led inside at 9:45am.
However, when Magistrate Nsemoah saw them, she directed them to leave the court.
Joy News’ Joseph Ackah-Blay who was part of the sacked journalists reported that the magistrate referred to them as “‘spectators’ and asked us to move away from the doorway.”
In their petition, the Corps said although it has enjoyed a lot of co-operation from the Judicial Service in the past years, they are displeased with the Magistrate’s conduct.
They described the Magistrate’s action as unconstitutional and requested that she be “reprimanded for actions against accredited members of the Judicial Press Corps.”
