A heavy downpour Sunday displaced about one hundred people and razed to the ground about 30 houses at Afram Plains in the Eastern region.
The assemblyman for Lehadzi Kwahu Afram Plains, Gideon Atsitsogbe, told Joy News that amongst the one hundred people, pregnant women, nursing mothers and children are the most affected by the rains.
“They are complaining about high body temperature and the children are having sleepless nights,” he added.
Though some houses are still standing, he said that others are on the verge of collapse.
“Some collapsed totally and others are still dangerous to sleep in”, he stated.
This has led to the evacuation of the affected residents from their houses.
The assembly man added that other residents have been urged to give out any spare rooms for the accommodation of victims.
"Storage rooms for foodstuff in people’s residence have been given out as temporary rooms for the affected victims", he said.
Mr. Gideon Atistsogbe said that representatives of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) have been there to assess the situation.
However, he added that the community is yet to receive any help from NADMO.
In a related development, thousands have been rendered homeless at Anlo Beach, a community in the Shama District of the Western Region.
The floods were caused by waters from the Pra River which overflowed its banks.
