The Interior Minister, Ambrose Dery has been summoned to Parliament to explain circumstances leading to the killing of two suspects in the custody of the police in Ashanti regional capital, Kumasi.
Minority Chief Whip who is also MP for Asawase, the area where the killing occured, demanded the summons explaining he is unconvinced by the police narrative that the two suspects were shot in public while trying to escape.
Ashanti regional police PRO ASP Juliana Obeng has explained the deceased suspects were leading the police to a hide-out where guns were kept for robbery operations.

But after leading them to four separate buildings without a trace of the guns, Awudu Osman and Lukeman Mohammed took to their heels. In an attempt to immobilze them, the police shot at them.
Osman died on the spot and Mohammed passed away at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.
Residents in the area have, however, accused the police of wrongly killing the two men and are demanding that justice is done.

The families of the deceased are demanding justice for the killing of their sons and have given government three days to intervene.
Drawing parliament's attention to the incident, Asawase NDC MP Muntaka Mohammed said on the floor of parliament, there seems to be a foul play.
He wants the matter investigated.
“None of us will want to support any confirmed armed robber but this can happen to any of us, the police can be sweeping and you’ll be picked up and you’ll need due process to clear yourself”, Muntaka said.
And we should be worried at the rate people are dying in police custody, too many people are dying in custody, he lamented.
Last February, a man in his 30's died while in the custody of Akuapem-Adawso Police in the Eastern region. He fell sick in the cells and passed shortly after he was sent to a clinic.
In the Western region last May, Jomoro residents engaged in a stand-off with the police after a 45-year old man died in police cells.
