The Northern and Upper East Regional Security Councils are scheduled to hold a joint meeting Tuesday to discuss the heightening tension in Arigu following clashes over the ongoing biometric registration exercise.A combined police-military team has been deployed to the area following the torching of several homes by some irate youth. The violence follows attempts by natives of the town to prevent members of an ethnic group in the area from registering in Pwalugu which is some miles away.Northern Regional Minister, Moses Magbengba who is touring the area told Joy News he will continue his trip to Bolgatanga to meet his colleague Upper East Regional Minister, Mark Woyongo on how to resolve the impasse.Meanwhile, he said calm has returned to the area.In a related development, the Upper East regional NPP Youth organizer, Michael Abogoro is urging the Electoral Commission and security agencies to immediately re-open registration centers where the exercise has been suspended in the Kassena Nankana district.According to him, reports that the residents have totally boycotted the exercise are untrue. He said the Akurugu family which wants the center to be named after them before the exercise begins cannot hold the community to ransom.
