More support is coming in for Betinase Municipal Assembly Basic School where a teacher grabbed world attention for his innovative way of teaching ICT without a computer.
A photo in which Richard Appiah Akoto sketched Microsoft interface on the blackboard to teach his pupils recently went viral on social media.
Technology giant, Microsoft has set up a technology and computer laboratory centre for the school.
It comes after earlier intervention by NIIT which donated computers and books to the school.
Until recently, students of Betinase M/ A School were abstractly learning ICT from the chalkboard in the absence of a computer which most of them had never seen.
The story is different now as children have access to a well-resourced ICT lab where they can feel, touch, and manipulate a computer, not on the chalkboard.
Final -year student, Afia Serwaa is confident, with this intervention, of excelling in ICT at the Basic Education Certificate Examination
“She says I want the best grade, I just want to get one in ICT I am confident I can use these laptops to learn hard and complete my education and also to pass ICT with distinction.”
The ICT teacher at the centre of it all, Richard Appiah Akoto, believes the computer lab is a huge relief for him and the students.
“First we were drawing on the chalkboard, everything about ICT was being done on the chalkboard and it was very difficult because you will draw and you will expect the students to do the same thing,
"But when you go round to inspect they will be doing a whole different thing altogether, but now we have a projector with twenty-seven laptops and its going to make the teaching of ICT very simple because when I demonstrate with the projector they will be sitting behind their laptop and also do same so it will make the teaching and learning of ICT very simple,” he said.
Meanwhile, technology giant Microsoft is committed to partnering Ghana Education Service in providing ICT services and logistics to especially schools in remote areas to enhance teaching and learning of ICT.
