The Electoral Commission (EC) has assured Ghanaians that the rerun of the parliamentary election in the Ablekuma North constituency on Friday, July 11, will be conducted in a fair, transparent, and credible manner.
Speaking at a press briefing ahead of the polls on Thursday, July 10, the deputy Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Dr Bossman Asare, said preparations were complete and the EC was committed to ensuring the election process reflects the will of the people.
“On our part as the electoral management body, we are desirous of bringing the election in the Ablekuma North constituency to a conclusion and to ensure that the constituents have a representative in Parliament,” the official stated.
The EC announced a rerun in 19 polling stations after security concerns prevented the collation of results in parts of the constituency during the December 2024 parliamentary elections.
The NPP's Nana Akua Afriyie, who is making a comeback, will go head-to-head again against the NDC's Ewurabena Aubynn to find a lawmaker to represent the constituency.
The EC explained that a clear path had been outlined to complete the collation process in line with legal procedures.
“We have thus provided a path to complete the collation process while ensuring that the residents of Ablekuma North have a representative in Parliament,” he said.
Reaffirming the Commission’s commitment to upholding electoral standards, he added, “We assure the public and the political parties that, as always, we will live by our motto and ensure that the rerun is fair, transparent and credible.”
The EC also extended its best wishes to the two candidates contesting the seat.
“We wish the two candidates the best of luck at the polls tomorrow, Friday, July 11,” the official said.
