The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Libya’s Government of National Unity has thanked Morocco for supporting Libya’s candidacy for a seat on the African Union Peace and Security Council (Northern Region) for the 2025-2028 term.
In a press release on Friday, the Ministry highlighted that this support enables Libya to contribute effectively to efforts aimed at strengthening security and stability in Africa, noting that the country has not held a seat on the Council for a decade.
The Ministry also acknowledged the strong ties between Libya and Morocco, expressing gratitude for Morocco’s role in supporting Libya’s legitimacy both regionally and internationally, as well as its backing of Libyan efforts toward security, stability, and development.
Additionally, it praised Morocco’s role in facilitating inter-Libyan dialogue, which led to the signing of the Skhirat Agreement on December 17, 2015. The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening bilateral relations across various sectors in the shared interest of both nations.
