The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has announced that Ghana and Belarus will begin negotiations towards a visa waiver agreement as part of efforts to deepen bilateral cooperation between the two countries.
The announcement follows a meeting between Mr Ablakwa and the Foreign Minister of Belarus, Maxim Ryzhenkov, who paid a courtesy visit to him in Accra.
The discussions focused on expanding collaboration in several key areas of mutual interest.

In a Facebook post on Sunday, March 15, 2026, Mr Ablakwa expressed appreciation for the visit and described it as productive for both countries.
“I convey heartfelt appreciation to the Foreign Minister of Belarus, His Excellency Maxim Ryzhenkov, for paying me a visit. This has been a really memorable and impactful visit,” he stated.

He indicated that Ghana and Belarus are keen to strengthen cooperation in sectors such as mechanised agriculture and tractor manufacturing, particularly in support of the government’s Feed Ghana initiative championed by President John Dramani Mahama.
Mr Ablakwa further revealed that both countries have agreed to initiate discussions on a visa waiver arrangement as well as partnerships in education, defence and cybersecurity.
According to him, the move is expected to enhance travel, trade and academic exchanges between the two nations, signalling a new phase in Ghana–Belarus relations.
