Daasebre Professor Emeritus Oti Boateng, Omanhene of New Juaben, says in a competitive world of constant change, developing countries risk further marginalization unless critical manpower needs are trained locally to protect national interests.
He said with the discovery of oil in large quantities, it was prudent for Ghana to encourage Universities to set up programmes in Engineering to support the socio-economic development of the nation.
Daasebre Oti Boateng, who is also the Chancellor of All Nations University College, Koforidua, was presenting laboratory equipment to the school in preparation for its Bachelor of Engineering programme in Oil and Gas.
The equipment worth 800,000 dollars was supported by the parent organization, All Nations International Development Agency (ANIDA).
He said the university had been working assiduously in developing a programme in Oil and Gas Engineering adding “for months now, we have been working with the National Accreditation Board for approval of the programme”.
Daasebre Oti Boateng said the university was poised to equip the country with oil and gas engineers who would compete effectively with other nationals in that aggressive market.
"As partners with the government in the development of high-quality human resource for national development, we strongly believe that having our own local expertise will protect our national interests”.
Dr Sam Donkor, president of the institute, receiving the items said the new programme would begin by January next year with an initial intake of 25 students.
He said all the necessary items for the four-year programme had been purchased.
