Majority Chief Whip in Parliament, Frank Annor Dompreh is optimistic that the Appropriation Bill to ensure government receives the needed funds allocated in the 2022 budget to finance its operations will be approved by members of the House.
Speaking to JoyNews' Kwesi Parker-Wilson, Mr Dompreh said "The Appropriation Bill will be passed, don't worry. We are going to the next stage. When the estimates are done, we put it together to pass the Appropriation. When we get to the bridge, we will cross it."
According to the Nsawam-Adoagyiri legislator, some Committees in Parliament including the Roads and Transport Committee have begun considering the budget estimates.
He noted that others have also scheduled dates to consider the estimates for their respective sectors.
"Committees are sitting and if you want to check, go to the 10th floor. I think the Roads and Transport Committee are meeting. Officials of the Ministry are there, estimates are being considered. If you go to the Finance Committee, I am sure they are sitting. Other committees have advertised meeting dates. So things are moving on smoothly," he said.
His comments come at a time when the Minority Group has filed a motion praying the House to set aside the ruling of the First Deputy Speaker, Joseph Osei-Owusu on the 2022 Budget.
Joseph Osei-Owusu on December 1, 2021 overruled a motion filed by Minority leader, Haruna Iddrisu to overturn the approval of the budget on November 30, in the absence of the Minority. This follows the rejection of the budget in the absence of the Majority.
Despite this initiative, the Majority Chief Whip insists there is no call for worry.
"Don't forget, there are various stages in the approval of this budget. From the policy, we go to the estimates, eventually we will get the appropriation passed," he added.
Meanwhile, Parliament has set up a 20-member committee to resolve the impasse on the approval of government's fiscal policy statement.
