Deputy Minister, Stephen Amoah stated that the government's acknowledgment of Ghanaians' suffering and non-introduction of new taxes in the mid-year budget review is in the right direction.
His comments follow the Minority criticising the Finance Minister, Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam, over his remarks empathizing with Ghanaians in their hardships.
According to Dr Amin Adam, the government is working tirelessly to address these issues and improve the economic situation for all Ghanaians.
However, the Minority argued that if the government truly empathized with Ghanaians, they would have taken more substantial actions to reverse the negative trend.
"The fact that we did not introduce or increase any new tax, we are spending within our appropriation. So what kind of relief do they want?" he asked.
In an interview on Joy FM’s Top Story on July 23, Mr. Amoah emphasized that the government is focusing on other social interventions to provide relief.
He mentioned initiatives such as launching SMEs and committing about GH₵8.2 billion to create jobs and support entrepreneurs in the country.

Mr. Amoah also highlighted that the government has disbursed approximately GH₵ 5.4 billion to support the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) program and the school feeding program since 2004, aiming to reduce the burden on citizens.
According to the Deputy Finance Minister, the immediate priority of government is to stabilize the economy, and he pointed to the current inflation rate as an indicator of the government's progress in achieving economic stability.
