The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has chastised his sub-chiefs for failing to disprove public comments suggesting that the theft of his jewels in Norway could lead to his destoolment.
Otumfuo’s jewels were stolen earlier this month from the lobby of a hotel he was lodging while attending a conference in Norway.
Police are investigating the case and a couple of weeks ago announced they had retrieved two of the crown jewels.
Speaking publicly for the first time upon his return, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II expressed disappointment in his sub-chiefs for remaining silent over commentary that he could lose the stool for losing the ornaments.
Luv FM’s Kwabena Ampratwum reports that visibly enraged, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II told his sub chiefs that if they cannot defend him, they should let him know so that he will find a way of handling issues like that.
“Don’t I have people to defend me when people are saying all sorts of things on radio about me? If I don’t have people to defend me then let me know. If that is the treatment you are giving me then you have to tell me in plain words.”
Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, who was addressing a gathering of chiefs of the Asanteman Council at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi, said he has been blessed by God and the Golden Stool and does not envy anything let alone take away or sell the property of the Asante Kingdom.
According to Joy News correspondent, the Offinso Manhene, Nana Wiafe Akenten, and Asante Mampong Manhene, Daasebre Osei Bonsu II, had to intervene at a time in point to calm the raging temper of the Asantehene.
