The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has commended former President John Agyekum Kufuor for his admirable leadership qualities.
The Asantehene said he was confident that former President Kufuor would continue to be of tremendous service to the nation and its people even though he was out of office.
Otumfuo Osei Tutu made the commendation at a colourful mini-durbar of chiefs, held at Manhyia Palace, Kumasi, to welcome former President Kufuor, former President Thabo Mbeki of South Africa, and former President Horst Kohler of Germany, to the city.
They were in Kumasi to unveil a plaque at the Kufuor Presidential Library and Museum at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), which formed part of the John A. Kufuor Foundation.
Former President Kufuor promised to use all his resources to ensure the successful completion of the project.
He praised the Asantehene and the Vice-Chancellor of the KNUST, for providing land for the building of library and museum.
Former President Kholer recalled the Asantehene’s visit to Germany and the clear articulation of his plans to bring progress to the people.
Former President Kholer lauded Otumfuo Osei Tutu for his visionary leadership, and said he had no doubt that contacts and the bond of friendship between Ghana and Germany could grow.
Former President Mbeki acknowledged the rich history of the Asantes and pledged to return to Kumasi, the seat of the Asante Kingdom.
