The Police in Bono Ahafo have identified rampaging National Democratic Youth who went on a burning spree but  are yet to arrest the perpetrators of the violence.

The spokesperson of the police in the region ASP Christopher Tawiah told Joy News one person was arrested but was "cautioned and bailed."

The decision by president John Mahama to relieve Samson Owusu Boateng, the District Chief Executive of his position became the subject of controversy with violent repercussions.

Supporters of the sacked DCE were accusing the MP, Sanja Nanja of being behind the dismissal of the DCE.

In the ensuing controversy, the constituency NDC office in Atebubu was burnt down by the angry party youth. The house of the DCE was ransacked and a store as well as a house belonging to the other faction was also burnt, ASP  Tawiah revealed.

The police spokesperson said they could not arrest the perpetrators because there was tension, "and if we decided to arrest more it was going to be something else."

He said earlier attempts by the District Commander to advice some of the perpetrators failed as they "rained curses" on the District Commander.

Some of the perpetrators also burst the tires of some vehicles, ASP Tawiah confirmed.

The Police have however dismissed assertion the perpetrators are being shielded because the matter is a party related violence.

He said the District Security Command has constituted a five member committee to investigate, arrest and prosecute the perpetrators.

"What they did was criminal. We are going to deal with them in person. Those who are culpable for the burning of the office and ransacking the room of the DCE [we will deal with them]" he promised.

Meanwhile the party is set to send a delegation to Atebubu on Tuesday to reconcile the feuding parties.

A Deputy General Secretary Koku Anyidoho condemned the act of violence and said his party will not shield anybody found culpable in the violence.

"We will allow the police to work," he stated, adding "no act of insubordination will be accepted."

He also praised the police for the swift action in bringing the violence under control.
