The Brong Ahafo Regional House of Chiefs is sending a delegation to meet the Asantehene in a bid to prevent an escalation of the conflict between the chiefs of Techiman and Tuobodom.
The Techiman chief detailed his bodyguards to arrest his counterpart in Tuobodom a couple of weeks ago.
Since the Tuobodom chief owes allegiance to the Ashanti Stool, he has received a strong backing from the Asantehene, Otumfuor Osei-Tutu II, who criticized the role of the Brong Ahafo Regional Minister and the Regional Police Commander in the raging dispute.
“What kind of law is being used in the country today? How can the President appoint a regional minister to represent him?” he asked when he spoke to Joy News on Tuesday.
The Brong Ahafo Regional House of Chiefs has expressed concern over the developments in Techiman and Tuobodom.
President of the house, Osahene Kwaku Atakyi, said a delegation is being sent to Kumasi to discuss the issue with the Asantehene and help calm tempers.
“We don’t want a situation like this to exist. This is why we’ve set up a small committee. When something like this happens, especially, those of us who belong to Asanteman Council get worried but in actual fact…historically, a good proportion of the present-day Brong Ahafo are within the Asanteman Council. We don’t want a situation whereby a development of this nature may affect us to a larger proportion,” he said.
Reason for anger?
Meanwhile, the Akyempemhene of Ashanti, Nana Oheneba Adusei Poku, says comments made by the Ashantehene came because the Ashantis had waited for far too long to see action taken against the Techimanhene.
According to him the Techimanhene erred grievously by sending thugs to kidnap the chief of Tuobodom.
According to Nana Poku, who was speaking on the Super Morning Show on Tuesday, the Regional Police Commander and the regional minister should have launched an immediate investigation into the matter.
Nana Poku said developments in the area, over the years, have pointed to a certain “pattern of confusion” which must not be encouraged.
He hinted although the Ashantis “are for peace” they would not hesitate to express their views when the need arose.
