The Bishop of Sekondi Diocese of the Methodist Church Ghana, Rt. Rev. Edward Ofori Donkor has admonished young Christians in the country to heed to their divine call of evangelism in order to bring more souls into the salvation knowledge of Christ.
The involvement of Christian youth in evangelism will help bring majority of young people who have develop affection for luxury and thus have contempt for authority a phenomenon which has become a source of frustration for parents and the nation as a whole into a philosophy of life that will provide them with meaning and purpose.
The Bishop made the call at the 4th Biennial Diocesan Conference of the Ghana Methodist Students Union, GHAMSU at Baidoo Bonsoe Senior High School, Agona in the Western Region.
Speaking on the theme, ‘Rise up mighty men of God and occupy till I come’, the Rt. Rev. Ofori Donkor said young Christians have a unique identity and position as ambassadors in the business of the Kingdom of God and this position they should strive to occupy till He come again.
“As Christian young people it is a divine call on you to bring other young people to the true knowledge of Christ”, he added.
The Rt. Rev. Edward Ofori Donkor was also optimistic that most of the young disconcerted or flustered people will respond positively to a life challenge that is worth living for “it is only our Lord Jesus Christ who can provide this way of abundant life and you are the contact persons through whom God would use to win the youth for Christ”.
He therefore urged them to allow themselves to be motivated by the Holy Spirit and as well modernize their ways of evangelism to met the current mode of reaching out to an unbeliever for the best way to reach a young person is through another young person, a true Christian youth, an ambassador for Christ.
He was however hopeful that with the activeness and unreservedly enthusiastic of GHAMSU in Students in Church Evangelism (SICE) the church in no time will realize its vision of doubling the membership.
On his part the president of the Sekondi Diocese GHAMSU, Mr. Mark Oliver Erbynn Baidoo, bemoaned the constant exposure of nakedness on our campuses and television screens coupled with fornication, masturbation, lesbianism and homosexuality and urged the youth not to compromise on their faith and the power bestowed on them by the Almighty God.
“Technological advancement which is meant for positive impact is gradually becoming a threat in our society thereby enhancing the activities of armed robbery and cyber fraud ‘sakawa’ through the use of computers, mobile phones and other technological interventions”, he said.
Mr. Mark Oliver Baidoo also called on the church hierarchy to help equip the youth with the necessary logistics particularly GHAMSU with respect to SICE to put them in position that they can conveniently discharge the social and spiritual obligations to the Glory of God.
Present at the conference were the Lay Chairman, Mrs. Esther Lily Nkansah, the immediate past Bishop, Rt. Rev. John Harvey Ewusi, the former Western Regional Minister, Hon. Betty Bosomtwi Sam and Reverend Ministers in the Diocese among others.
