Black Stars coach Goran Stevanovic has expressed confidence his charges have what it takes to go past Zambia’s Chipolopolo as the two sides face off today in a semi final clash in the ongoing Gabon/Equatorial Guinea African Cup of Nations. Kick-off is at 4pm GMT at the Estadio de Bata in Equatorial Guinea. The Black Stars who are chasing the title they last won in 1982 to make it a historic 5th have a Herculean task to overcome the enterprising Zambians, hungry to bag their first ever title after playing in two finals in 1974 and 1994. The Ghanaians, huge tournament favourites have not been themselves throughout the matches, virtually limping from one game to the other but somehow managing to advance. The Zambian’s however appear to have a much purposeful approach and look the more dangerous. Both sides topped their respective group games with 7 points apiece, winning two games and drawing the other. Zambia then accounted for Sudan 3:0 in the quarter finals while Ghana nipped a 2:1 win over Tunisia after extra time. But former Ghana international, Yaw Preko believes the Black Stars will sail through after a difficult encounter. Preko was guest of the Joy Sports Nations Cup diary on Tuesday and typically acknowledged the strengths of the Zambians, having played them during his time at the national side. But he said the Black Stars have the men and drive to overcome the Zambian challenge and book a second straight final berth after Angola 2010. He said the Black Stars must stop the Zambians from holding on to the ball, be clinical in front of goal and avoid sending the game into extra time. Zambia captain, Christopher Katonga insists this is the best time for Zambia to nick the elusive title and will leave nothing to chance. And while the English African pair do battle for a finals berth, their French pair of Cote d’Ivoire and Mali will also sort themselves out.
