Acting Minister for Defence, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, has said President John Dramani Mahama’s economic reset agenda and commitment to good governance are restoring hope and confidence among Ghanaians.

Speaking at the End of Year West Africa Social Activity (WASSA) 2025 held at the Burma Camp in Accra on Friday, January 23, Dr Forson praised the President’s leadership and its impact on national stability and progress.

Dr Forson noted that under President Mahama’s leadership, Ghana continues to experience peace and steady development across key sectors.

“Under your guidance, our nation continues to enjoy peace and steady progress across all sectors. Your economic reset and good governance continue to anchor the happiness and hope of the Ghanaian people.”

According to him, the President’s leadership has also been a source of motivation for the Ghana Armed Forces in carrying out their constitutional mandate. “Your leadership inspires the Ghana Armed Forces to work for a secure, stable, and prosperous Ghana,” he said.

Dr Forson further commended the President for his consistent support for the Ministry of Defence and the Armed Forces, saying it has strengthened professionalism and cooperation within the security sector.

“We deeply appreciate your unwavering support and guidance, which continue to strengthen cooperation and professionalism across the Ministry and the Ghana Armed Forces,” he noted.

Reflecting on the occasion, the Acting Defence Minister paid tribute to military personnel for their dedication and sacrifice in safeguarding the country.

“Permit me to acknowledge the sacrifice and invaluable contribution of our gallant service personnel. Through their dedication and resilience, our country continues to stand strong and united in the face of internal and external challenges.”

Dr Forson assured both personnel and the general public that the Ministry of Defence remains committed to keeping the Armed Forces modern and operationally ready.

“The Ministry of Defence will provide strategic policy guidance to keep the Ghana Armed Forces responsive, modern and operationally ready,” he said, adding that efforts would also be made to align defence priorities with emerging security threats within Ghana and the sub-region.

He said that the welfare of military personnel remains a top priority for the Mahama administration.

“The well-being of our men and women in uniform is of paramount importance. We will continue to take steps to improve personnel welfare and living standards.”

According to him, government has already given significant attention to issues such as accommodation, healthcare, training, career progression and general welfare to boost morale and effectiveness within the Armed Forces.

“These will enhance morale, professionalism, and operational effectiveness across the Ghana Armed Forces,” he added.

Dr Forson also acknowledged the concerns of retired soldiers, noting that welfare support extends beyond those currently in service.

“Government recognises that welfare extends beyond serving personnel to retirees and veterans who dedicated the prime of their lives to the service of our dear nation,” he said.

He disclosed that concerns raised by the 1995 and 1996 year groups, as well as overage retirees, are receiving serious attention.

"The concerns of the 1995 and 1996 year group and the overage retirees are receiving serious government attention through constructive engagement aimed at fair, compassionate, and sustainable solution."
