Five thousand dollars will be up for grabs for nominees in the Best Music for Development category when the 10th Anniversary of the MTN Ghana Music Awards rolls at the Accra International Conference Center (AICC) on Saturday. This was disclosed by Theresa Ayoade, Events Director of Charter House, organizers of the Ghana Music Awards in an interview with Joy FM’s Super Morning Show host Kojo Oppong Nkrumah on Friday. The category is sponsored by the World Bank as a measure to imbibe the spirit of development in the creative arts of Ghanaian musicians. Among the nominees include hip-life star Obuor for his Road safety campaign and Sherifa for her peace campaign during the December 2008 General Elections. This is one of many surprises expected when all of Ghana’s music icons converge on one stage, on one night, with one aim-set the roofs of AICC to raptors serving unending melodious music primarily from Ghanaian origin. New breeds of hip-life and hi-life icons, Asem, Becca, Praye will attempt to wipe the indelible mark of Obrafuor Lord Kenya, Daddy Lumba, Kojo Antwi in a feet-stamping, jaw-breaking performance that will keep music lovers dancing all night long. Also on stage will be Naeto C, Sway, Ghanaian-born UK’s biggest rapper, Nigerian Dbanj, performing his new hit ‘fall in love’ and Ikechuku. But it will not be all rosy. Hearts will be broken as awards for different category will elude some musicians whose expectations have been stretched beyond elastic limit. Story by Nathan Gadugah
