Bologna have gone public on their reasons for signing Stephen Appiah after a long period of deliberation and several intense medicals.
A free agent for 18 months since leaving Turkish side Fenerbahce, the Ghanaian international is thought to have had trials across Europe including England with Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur.Having failed to convince anybody to sign him rumours abounded that the midfielder was carrying a career threatening injury. However, after a run of games with his national side featuring alongside Chelsea’s Michael Essien, it appears that the 28-year-old’s story does have a happy ending as he plans for Serie A action."The arrival of Stephen Appiah is a decision that was shared by all the leaders of the Rossoblu," Bologna president Francesca Menarini told Datasport."We all know the value of this player. [He] is eager to revive himself with a club after a serious injury."We thought long and hard. The thorough medical checks performed have provided the necessary assurances - Appiah is intact and available."Appiah will make a significant contribution in a department that, because of the long-term absence of [Massimo] Mutarelli, was depleted," she concluded.Source: Ghanasoccernet.com
