Brazil has offered to assist Ghana with $94 million to provide tractor and equipment services to aid the country's bid to mechanise agriculture and boost food production.
It has also made available $200,000 to support victims of the flood disaster that hit the northern parts of the country, Mr. John Jinapor, spokesperson of the Vice President disclosed this to the Ghanaian Times on phone from Brasilia yesterday.
He said the move formed part of the two countries' decision to deepen south-south co-operation in areas of agriculture, health, trade and infrastructural development.
This, according to him, was the outcome of a high level meeting between Vice- President John Mahama and his Brazilian counterpart, Michel Temer, at Brasilia on Monday, as part of his three days visit to that country.
The visit followed an earlier one in March, last year, where a number of trade deals were entered into.
The current visit, according to Mr. Jinapor, was expected to fast- forward the actualisation of the deals.
Vice-President Mahama was said to have raised a number of issues and reiterated government's commitment to get Ghana out of economic doldrums and address the financial deficit it inherited.
Vice-President Mahama informed his counterpart that the Mills administration was working tirelessly to turn the economic fortunes of Ghana around, especially in the wake of oil production and prudent financial management.
With Ghana's current status as a middle income country, Mr. Mahama noted that, the country was gradually achieving its age-long dream of prosperity and that “Brazil has always been a source of inspiration to Ghana”.
His Brazilian counterpart, Mr. Michel Temer, was happy that Ghana government was taking economically sound decisions to put the local economy back on track, noting especially, the measures put in place to properly manage proceeds from her oil production.
This, he said, was being closely observed with satisfaction by the international community.
Vice-President Temer stated that his government was prepared to deepen economic relations with her Ghanaian counterpart based on these positive indicators.
Mr. Mahama is expected back in Accra on Wednesday.
