Global music sensation, Burna Boy has officially entered the world of feature films, as executive producer of the upcoming thriller “3 Cold Dishes.”
Shot over almost three years across Nigeria, Benin Republic, Côte d’Ivoire, and Mauritania, the film marks a bold new direction for the Grammy‑winning artist and his Spaceship Films banner, which he co‑founded with his mother, Bose Ogulu.
Directed by Asurf Oluseyi and written by Tomi Adesina, “3 Cold Dishes” follows the gripping reunion of three women, Esosa, Fatouma, and Giselle, trafficked as teenagers and bound by shared trauma.
Two decades later, they reunite to exact calculated vengeance on the powerful men who destroyed their lives. What begins as a quest for revenge evolves into a deeper reckoning with justice, identity, and survival in a world that never expected them to rise.
Lead actresses Osas Ighodaro, Fat Toure, and Maud Guerard immersed themselves in character workshops informed by real survivor testimonies.
Their performances draw on weeks of emotional preparation, ensuring that each scene honours the experiences of those who have endured human trafficking. The film’s dialogue weaves English, French, and Yoruba, reflecting West Africa’s linguistic diversity.
Burna Boy’s involvement elevates the project’s Pan‑African ambition. Through Spaceship Films, he has overseen every aspect of production, championing a story that speaks truth to power and honours the resilience of survivors. The artist’s commitment to authentic storytelling extends beyond his music and positions him as a cultural force in both film and sound.
“3 Cold Dishes” is a co‑production between Black Mic Mac, Ifind Pictures, Alma Productions, Asurf Films, Martian Network, and other Pan‑African partners. Major studios including Azure Noir & Co and Nexthought Studios lent their expertise to navigate the logistical challenges of filming in multiple countries and remote locations where such stories unfold.
The first official teaser for “3 Cold Dishes” has just dropped, promising audiences a visually striking, emotionally charged thriller. The film opens in cinemas on November 7 in Nigeria, Ghana, Liberia, Kenya, and Rwanda before rolling out on November 28 in Côte d’Ivoire, Senegal, Benin, Togo, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
With “3 Cold Dishes,” Burna Boy not only broadens his creative horizons but also amplifies voices too often silenced. The film’s tagline—“They were taken. Silenced. Forgotten. But vengeance remembers everything”—captures its fierce spirit. As fans await its release, one thing is clear, Burna Boy’s leap into feature films is set to be as groundbreaking as his chart‑topping hits.
