Members of the New Patriotic Party in the Cape Coast Constituency will no longer proceed to court to compel the party to relax its rules around internal elections.
According to the Party's rules for internal elections, all members interested to contest any party executive position including polling station executives should have been card bearing members for two years.
This directive, however, did not sit well with members in the Cape Coast Constituency who gave the NPP the options of relaxing the rules or face a court action.
Nonetheless, Tuesday; barely 24 hours after press conference by NPP constituency secretary, Jafaro Seidu, disclosed the matter had been resolved.
When probed further, Seidu added the Central Regional Chairman of the NPP had intervened and the issue laid to rest. Seidu explained in his constituency at least "...if you have it then fine...but we will go there and contest...otherwise they should ask those who will come and vote to be card bearing members and let's see how many will have it."
He reiterated concerns that this directive when strictly adhered to, will only lead to loss of interest in party activities. The Cape Coast constituency scribe suggested in addition to or in place of the directive "provided someone can testify you have been a member then you should be able to contest...that is what we are going to do".
He concluded his interview on JoyNews Desk on MultiTV their intentions to go to court have now been bedded; "that was only supposed to be a last resort", Seidu added.
