The Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of Parliament says the Minority's persistent calls for the South African High Commissioner to be sacked is self-righteous.

Frank Annor Dompre says calls for the head of George Ayisi-Boateng are unnecessary. 

“In due course, the Majority side of the Foreign Affairs Committee is going to respond to the Minority and put this matter in context…they are overly political and they are being hypocritical about this matter.

“We are all not happy with what happened but the extent to which they are taking it is becoming excessive and irritating,” he told Emefa Apawu on Joy FM’s Newsnight programme, Thursday.

The opposition lawmakers in a statement Thursday said George Ayisi Boateng lacks the right temperament as a diplomat to represent Ghanaians in a foreign country.

But Mr Annor Dompre said, “to the effect that he [Ayisi Boateng] has apologised both verbally and has come out with a written apology to the president and the good people of this country,” that must end the brouhaha.

Mr Annor Dompre slammed the Minority for making a mountain out of the situation.

For the Member of Parliament for Nsawam-Adoagyiri, what is important is for Mr Ayisi Boateng to show remorse and apologise for his comments and he has done just that.

“If the Minority still thinks there is something that we should expect from him, then they can go ahead, but they must respect the wisdom of the president,” he said.

Mr Annor Dompre said they have made a call so they should allow the appointing authority to make a decision and not force that authority into making a rushed decision.

He also challenged Minority’s claim that the apology was forced out of the South African High Commissioner saying, “people should be respected for what they stand for.”

“The man has responded to the criticisms and cries of the general public and accordingly apologised…for now, that is enough so let’s watch him since he hasn’t shown any history of making such statement,” he said.
