Three more people have died from Cerebrospinal Meningitis (CSM), bringing the total number of victims 40.Â
The number of confirmed cases have also shot up from 247 to 258.
Upper West Regional Minister, Dr Hafiz Bin Salih, disclosed this at a press conference in Wa.
"The case fatality rate of meningitis in the region is 15.5 % which is unacceptable.
"About 80% of the death is as a result of delay in reporting to the health facilities," the Minister was worried.Â
Dr. Bin Salih stated that the region has over 9,000 vials of ceftrizone and five packs of pastorex to treat the disease and has therefore urged people infected with the deadly disease to report to health facilities whenever one begins experiencing headache, fever and stiffness for immediate attention than resorting to self-medication.
He assured the people that there is enough drugs to help manage and treat meningitis cases.
Dr. Bin Salih, however, pointed out that there is no vaccine worldwide for sero-type X which is currently affecting the people.
He announced that a team of experts in the next coming days will be in the region to help manage the situation.
