The cultural consulate of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Accra has presented 150 copies of the Koran to the office of the National Chief Imam in Accra.
The Koran, which is the holy book of Muslims, would be distributed to local Imams and mosques in Accra.
Sheikh Osamu Sharabutu, the National Chief Imam, expressed his gratitude to the consulate for the donation.
He said any Muslim who secured the welfare of the other was a real Muslim adding that the Koran and other religious materials would be put to good use to worship Allah.
Mr. Abbas Ali Afsani, Cultural Counselor of the Iranian Embassy, said the cultural consulate, in partnership with the Islamic University College, had taken 70 Imams through a sandwich programme on Islam.
Mr. Afsani said there were many opportunities open to Imams to study and improve their knowledge of the Koran.
In addition, he said, there were classes for Muslim women to empower them in various sectors in their communities.
Mr. Afsani said the consulate would build schools from primary to the senior high in the country.
The Iranian Embassy has made similar donations to Imams in 10 regions and the University of Ghana, Islamic University College, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology and University of Cape Coast.
