The Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) have concluded their initial probe into the alleged military brutality against a 16-year-old in Tamale earlier this year.

The boy, Christopher Bam, was severely beaten by the military officers at Tamale in the Northern Region for allegedly stealing a mobile phone.

The officers reportedly chained the victim to a mango tree and subjected him to severe beatings. Family of the victim, through their lawyer, Francis Xavier Sosu subsequently filed a petitioned CHRAJ over the matter.

Speaking to JOYNEWS, deputy commissioner at CHRAJ, Joseph Withal says his outfit is close to bringing finality to the matter.

"The report has come through and we are currently studying the report and the recommendations. In the meantime we have also written to the respondent through the Chief of Defence Staff so we are expecting the response," Mr Withal said.

He said the response will inform what their next line of action will be, adding that so far they have gotten a lot of information and the Commission will either finalise the report and bring it out or go for further investigations.

Mr Withal said the Commission does not expect the next stage to stall as going by their procedural rules the moment the respondents receives the Commission's letter they have to reply in 10 days.
