Ibrahim Tenge, 50, an Islamic cleric who used a public address system to verbally attack his mother, calling her a witch, was on Monday remanded by a circuit court at Aflao.
He was charged with breach of the peace, threat of harm and causing unlawful damage.
Tenge, whose plea was not taken, would be brought before the court again on March 8.
Police Inspector Mary Assan told the court, presided over by Group Captain Martin Obeng-Ntim that Tenge an ardent follower and preacher of the Islamic faith lived in the same house at Gbedekope, a suburb of Aflao, with his 74-year-old mother, a petty trader.
She said Tenge made it a habit of loudly insulting his mother that she was a witch and a devil, despite series of interventions by elders of his family and his religious faith.
Miss Assan said at about 1430 hours on February 12, this year Tenge went for a public address system and for nearly an hour was shouting insults at his mother until a daughter-in-law of the mother showed up at the scene and whisked her away into hiding.
Tenge, Miss Assan said became incensed, traced the mother to her hide-out and continued to insult her destroying some items on display for sale around and threatened to kill her if she returned home.
