The Civil and Local Government Staff Association, Ghana (CLOGSAG) has suspended its nationwide strike, paving the way for further negotiations over the controversial appointment of Samuel Adom Botchway as the Registrar of the Births and Deaths Registry.
In a statement issued after an emergency National Executive Council (NEC) meeting on March 28, 2025, CLOGSAG announced that the strike action had been put on hold to allow for continued engagement with relevant authorities.
As a result, all Civil Service and Local Government Service staff have been directed to resume work on Wednesday, April 2, 2025.
The strike was initially declared following NEC deliberations on February 11, 2025, where concerns were raised about the appointment of politically exposed individuals to key civil service positions.
CLOGSAG had resolved to embark on industrial action if Mr. Botchway assumed office.
When Mr. Botchway officially took office on February 12, 2025, the association followed through on its resolution, commencing a nationwide strike on February 20, 2025.
Members were instructed to stay home indefinitely in protest.
