The Coalition of Non Governmental Organizations which championed the passage of the Domestic Violence Act has appealed to President Kufuor to assent to the Act.
The Domestic Violence Coalition wants the President to attach the same urgency to the act, which deals with all forms of abuse in the home, as he did to the Representation of the People’ Amendment Act which gave Ghanaians abroad voting rights.
After five years of drafting and lobbying, Parliament passed the bill on Wednesday.
The Coalition said reminder letters would be sent to President Kufuor everyday from Monday if he did not assent to the Act by the weekend.
Human Rights Activist and Lawyer Nana Oye Lithur, a member of the Coalition told Joy News that the President assented to the ROPAL in a matter of 24 hours and would whish that he would attend to the Domestic Violence law with the same speed.
