Deputy Eastern Regional MTTU Commander, Assistant Superintendent of Police Franklin Kwesi Kramoah, on Tuesday advised communities not to erect speed ramps on roads.
He appealed to communities to consult the Ghana Highways Authority or the Department of Urban Roads to erect speed ramps for them should the need arise.
ASP Kramoah was speaking in an interview with the GNA in Koforidua on the effects of so many speed ramps erected by communities on roads in the area.
Communities along the Koforidua/Adawso and Koforidua/Suhum roads had recently erected many speed ramps on the roads that resulted in two accidents.
Mrs Kramoah said apart from the fact that it was unlawful for communities to erect speed ramps by themselves, the illegal rumps also placed economic burden on the government since the roads are damaged in the long run.
He said the offending communities did not use the right materials in erecting the speed ramps but rather used wood and blocks which from time to time damaged the roads.
Mrs Kramoah said because there were no sign posts to show drivers that there were speed ramps ahead of them most of them end up damaging their vehicles and accidents could occur.
He appealed to the authorities to erect speed ramps on the roads where necessary.
