Ebenezer Tham, a 38- year-old man from Djankrom-Nsawam in the Eastern Region, was on Tuesday jailed eight months on his own plea for defrauding by false pretence by the Nsawam Magistrate Court.
Prosecuting, Police Inspector Francis Acquaye told the court presided over by Mrs Marinda Barnnernan Williams that the accused on October 22, last year introduced himself as a staff of Christian Action Aid, a non-governmental organisation, which gives financial assistance to farmers to expand their farms.
Inspector Acquaye said Tham promised to help the people of Oboadaka, Kwamentow, Yawduodu, Obenkrom, Apantam, Aburiamfo and other communities and succeeded in collecting millions of Ghana cedis from them.
The prosecution said Tham failed to honour his promise and rather issued out a fictitious cheque of GH¢ 1,000 each to the people leading to his arrest.
In another development, a driver, Wahab Fatawu who attempted to bribe the police with GH¢12.00 was fined GH¢420 by the court
