It will not be in the interest of developed countries to have a free and united Africa, former head of the Political Science Department at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology has said.
Nana Addae Yeboah told Luv FM in Kumasi on the occasion of African Union Day developed countries as part of their self interest exploit developing countries by determining prices of local commodities.
That he said will be difficult under a unionized Africa.
He also noted that the dictatorial regimes and the idea of sovereignty by African countries make it all the more difficult for the dream of an African union to be realized.
“Most African leaders are pursuing what they consider to be their own agendas. It is very difficult under those circumstances to pursue union policies.
“When you don’t have democratic government it is very difficult to have collective efforts in some policy areas,” he said.
His comments come in the wake of increasing agitation for an African union by some African leaders most of who are in Ghana to commemorate the centenary anniversary of Dr Kwame Nkrumah, Ghana’s first president.
