Elder Dr Nana Arthur Joseph Owuraku Jnr is a distinguished, multiple award‐winning homeopathic doctor, entrepreneur, and philanthropist.
His remarkable journey from humble beginnings to becoming one of Ghana’s leading figures in alternative medicine is proof of his unwavering faith, resilience, and selfless commitment to transforming lives.
Early Life and Education
Born in Koforidua to parents from Akwapim Adukrom, Elder Dr Owuraku Jnr was raised in the quiet village of Ofosu, nestled between Ofosu and Twifo Praso. His father, a medical doctor, and his ever‐present mother provided an inspiring environment that nurtured his aspirations.
He began his basic education in Ofosu, completing middle school in 1984 before proceeding to secondary school from 1985 to 1989.
A brilliant science student, he pursued his sixth‐form education at Pope John’s Senior High School in 1992, where he solidified his foundation in science and mathematics.
Determined to pursue a career in medicine, he gained admission to Kumasi Polytechnic, training as a Laboratory Technician. His national service at Akosombo further exposed him to life and public service, fuelling his dream of becoming a doctor.
The sudden passing of his father during his senior high school years thrust him into a difficult position, forcing him to navigate life independently. Undeterred, he took on odd jobs and briefly worked at a polyclinic in Kaneshie to keep his dream alive.
Being well‐mannered and hardworking, his potential was evident to those around him. As a result, a benefactor supported his journey to Nigeria, where he enrolled in a distance-learning health programme from a London-based institution, earning a certificate in healthcare.
His passion for natural medicine led him to India, where he obtained a Diploma in Homeopathy (2003–2005). With this newfound expertise, he returned to Ghana, pioneering the integration of homeopathy into various healthcare facilities.
A Leap of Faith: Settling in Nkawkaw
After years of honing his skills and impacting lives in Accra, a profound spiritual experience directed his next move. In a dream, a voice instructed him to settle in Nkawkaw, a decision that became the catalyst for his groundbreaking contributions to healthcare in Kwahuman.
In 2008, with a heart full of faith and a pocket almost empty, he left Accra—including his part‐time lecturing role at Juaben Alternative Medicine School in the Ashanti Region—to establish his own healthcare facilities.
Today, he is the CEO and Founder of Alpha Homeopathic and Botanic Hospital and New Shepherd Maternity Home, both registered under the Ministry of Health. With over 22 years of medical practice, he has become one of the most respected homeopathic doctors in Ghana, receiving national and international recognition.
