Ghana midfielder Haminu Dramani has joined French Ligue 2 side Arles-Avignon on a one-year deal after leaving Russian side Locomotive Moscow.
Dramani put pen-to-paper on the deal after passing a medical on Monday and could make his debut in a friendly against Toulouse in a friendly on Saturday.
He says he is delighted with the opportunity to play regular football again and is hopeful he can help the club return to the French top-flight after their relegation last season.
"I wanted above all to find playing time in order to demonstrate my skills in the field. So I was looking for a club that allows me to regain stability and be better player. It is the only reason for my choice,” he told the club’s official website.
Dramani who grew disillusioned with life in Russia, is following in the footsteps of Andre Ayew, the Ghana international who helped Arles gain promotion in 2010 while on loan at the club.
He says he has been told by Ayew that the French second division will be tough but is keen to stress that the club’s expectation of him should not be based on the Ayew days.
"I cannot pretend to do better than what was carried out by Andre. Every player is different, each in its own way. I come here to bring all my experience of international player. I cannot predict what will happen this season, however, I know my qualities and I am here to serve for the coach and the team," he added.
Dramani scored the crucial goal at the 2006 World Cup that took Ghana through to the second round against the USA.
He has also represented Ghana at the last three Africa Cup of Nations tournaments and joins Arles with huge international experience, even though he has not played for Ghana since he was dropped from the squad for the 2010 world up in South Africa.
