Transport fares in Accra remain the same despite a five percent increment announced by the Ghana Road Transport Coordinating Council.
Joy News checks in some bus terminals in Accra reveal that commuters are still paying the old fares.
Our reporters say the situation does not just apply to transport within the city but also commuters outside the capital. Commuters confirmed that the fares are still the same.
The Chairman of the Accra-Kumasi Transport Unit, Mr Collins Assuming, says they are still charging the same fares because they have not received any directive to increase it.
The situation is also the same with regards to the Metro Mass transit Limited, which runs the popular “Kufuor Bus.”
According to the Manager of Traffic Operations, Mr Hastings Acquah Wilson, there is no justification for any increase in fares.
“The old ones are still standing. For now management has not taken any decision on that,” he said.
Other branches of the transport unit agrees, to them the increase is too minimal for an increment.
