The people of Ejisu in the Ashanti region are voting today to elect a member of parliament in a by-election.
Six candidates, including three independent candidates, are vying for the seat declared vacant following the death of the Member of Parliament, Dr. John Kumah on March 7, 2024.
The full list of candidates for the Ejisu by-election is as follows:
- Esther Osei (CPP)
- Kwabena Boateng (NPP)
- Beatrice Boakye (LPG)
- Kwabena Owusu Aduomi (Independent)
- Gabriel Agyemang Joseph (Independent)
- Attakorah Joseph (Independent)
The race is however thought to be between the New Patriotic Party’s Kwabena Boateng and former MP Kwabena Owusu Aduomi, who is running as an Independent Candidate.
Campaigns ended on Monday, while the Electoral Commission (EC) says it is ready to conduct the by-election, having dispatched all required electoral materials.
Ahead of the election, NPP's National Organiser, Henry Nana Boakye, expressed strong confidence in the party's chances, predicting a clear victory by a significant margin.
Speaking on JoyNews’ PM Express, Nana B dismissed a recent poll by Info-Analytics, which projected an NPP win but with a narrow margin, questioning the credibility of the organisation's work.
According to him, “Their polls look like somebody sitting in his living room and conjuring some figures and throwing them out there. We have a credible source and I am saying that we’re going to win with a clear margin.”
However, Mr Aduomi is equally confident in his chances, citing his past work for the constituency as a key factor to secure victory.
Addressing the media after concluding his campaign activities, Aduomi emphasised his substantial support from opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) voters, attributing it to his previous tenure as an MP.
He vehemently refuted claims of aligning with the NDC and denied being a traitor to the NPP.
“I am not a traitor and NPP should rather solve all issues bothering all members of the party and should not favour some people against others.
“That bogus elections that they said they held at the polling stations, if the president has the party and the Ejisu constituency at heart, he will ensure that the issues that the people brought will be solved.”
