Popular reggae musician and President of the Music Council of Ghana, Lester Ekow Micah, has been arrested Tuesday evening over what has become known as the ‘Asamoah Gyan Sex Video saga’.
The dreadlocks-wearing Ekwo of ‘Me Si Wu Hemaa’ fame is on detention at the Airport Police Station and had not been granted bail as at press time yesterday.
A police source said Ekwo would help the police in ongoing investigations into a blackmail and extortion complaint filed by Asamoah Gyan’s manager against Osarfo Anthony, a journalist alleged to have demanded an amount of È»25,000 from the Gyan camp so he would prevent further negative publications on the Black Stars captain.
“We have some evidence which suggest that Ekwo Micah conspired with Osarfo Anthony and others and he has some serious explanations to do. Police is likely to send him to court this week,” a source at the station told News-One.
Two other accomplices are said to be on a police wanted list and have refused to honour police invitation.
Daily Guide broke the news last Friday about the arrest of Osarfo Anthony and said it had seen a copy of an undertaking signed by Osarfo Anthony pledging to halt all negative publications on Asamoah Gyan, particularly his alleged sexual encounter with Sarah Kwablah, if the Ȼ25,000 was paid him.
Asamoah Gyan’s alleged sexual encounter was said to have been captured on video and Osarfo had threatened to unleash it in the public domain if the money was not handed to him.
The extortion process was also secretly recorded on video the night Osarfo Anthony received the cash from Asamoah Gyan’s Manager, Samuel Anim Addo.
Osarfo had, however, been granted a police inquiry bail while investigations continued.
The suspect is reported to have collected various sums of money including GHȻ 5,000, $1,000 and a cheque with a face value of GHȻ15,000 as part of the payments.
It would be recalled that News-One broke a story of a 22-year-old university student, Sarah Kwablah, threatening to make public what she described as a secretly recorded video of sexual intercourse she had with Asamoah Gyan.
Sarah, in the said publication, said she secretly recorded the video when the Black Stars captain had intercourse with her at her apartment in February this year and that she had decided to make it public because her relationship with the footballer was not going as she had envisaged.
The 22-year-old university student also claimed she got pregnant after the intercourse and was therefore demanding that Asamoah Gyan gets her a furnished apartment, a housemaid and a monthly stipend of $1,000 for antenatal care.
The case was first reported at the Odorkor police station in Accra and to officials of the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU) for investigation.
