CEO of 3Music Networks, Sadiq Abdulai Abu, has defended rapper Sarkodie who said local broadcasters have no right to criticise him if they haven’t achieved any international feats themselves.
He who made this revelation on Joy FM’s Showbiz A-Z last Saturday, believes artistes aren’t the only professionals expected to leave a mark in their area of expertise.
“You can’t be a 20-year pundit veteran with nothing to show for it,” he said.
The media practitioner maintains that a lot of individuals pride themselves as entertainment pundits but lag behind in making impacts in ways necessary for industry growth.
“The media has created a new work line for empty pundits who will wake up and realize that they’ve done 10 years of that and the only value or the only thing they’re known for is often attention-grabbing but empty headlines or attacks on talents and people”, he lamented.
His comment follows Sarkodie’s recent interview in which he said, “it is easy for someone to sit on the radio and say that Shatta Wale or Sarkodie didn’t do this or that.
"I know that we artistes have things we should do because every time, there is a step, but if you are on a Ghanaian radio for close to 20 years and you’ve not moved to a platform like Choice or BBC, I don’t think you have the moral right to talk about Ghanaian artistes who have not moved”.
Vociferous Mr Abdulai believes it’s about time every pundit assesses themselves and evaluates the impact they are making in the entertainment industry.
According to him, criticisms aren’t enough. Rather, contributions to industry elevation and self-capacity building are both imperative in the grand scheme of things.
In conclusion, Sadiq Abdulai Abu said, presenters, do not have any business in criticising others if they do not live up to exceptional experience and deep insights.
