The Institute for Energy Security (IES) has called on the Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) to maintain transparency in its communication regarding the current status of the power sector.
Furthermore, IES emphasised the importance of GRIDCo providing the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) with a clear and reliable estimate of the power supply available within specific timeframes.
The IES in a press statement issued on Monday, April 1, argued that this transparency is crucial for Ghanaians to understand the recent power outages and to effectively plan their daily activities.
The institute asserted that anything less than transparent communication would be the unjust treatment of the Ghanaian people by the involved agencies.
The Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) must break its silence on happenings in the power sector and be willing to indicate to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) the quantum of power that could be made available to the ECG within a set time frame.
Such information is vital for the ECG to plan its load response with a timetable.
The IES also stressed the importance of ECG prioritising load management based on the power supply from GRIDCo and ensuring effective revenue collection to achieve full cost recovery.
“The Public Utility and Regulatory Commission (PURC) must look beyond the ECG to audit the upstream segment of the power sub-sector, particularly the GRIDCo, and export sales by the Volta River Authority (VRA),” it added.
