The Food and Drugs Board (FDB) through its post-market surveillance activities has impounded Two Hundred and Ten (210) Cartons of Mama Queen Mackerel in Tomato Sauce belonging to Jichi Ghana Limited.
A statement issued by the Board on Wednesday by the Chief Executive Dr. Stephen K. Opuni said the sale of Mama Queen Mackerel in Tomato Sauce contravenes provisions of Section 25 of the Food and Drugs Law, 1992 (PNDC Law 305B).
“The Food and Drugs Board (FDB) has neither evaluated nor registered Mama Queen Mackerel in Tomato Sauce. FDB cannot therefore guarantee the safety and quality of Mama Queen Mackerel in Tomato Sauce for public consumption.”
The statement further noted that the label on Mama Queen Mackerel in Tomato Sauce does not indicate the name and address of the manufacturer, importer or distributor as well as the country of origin that would make it impossible to trace the source of the product.
“The owner of the impounded Mama Queen Mackerel in Tomato Sauce who claims he bought the consignment from someone who imported it from China through Togo has been apprehended by the Food and Drugs Board and is helping with investigations,” it said.
“Consumers are advised not to patronize the product as its safety and quality cannot be guaranteed.”
The Food and Drugs Board assured the general public of its resolve to protect public health and safety at all times.
It also called on the general public not to hesitate to inform the Food and Drugs Board on companies or persons found to be indulging in any practice that could endanger public health and safety through any of the following contacts; 0244-337235, 0244-337243, 0244-337251
