Feuding factions in the Alavanyo-Nkonya clashes have signed a declaration to never again use conflict to settle their differences.
The peace agreement was signed during a three-day mediation talks in Accra with government and other stakeholders to find a lasting solution to the nine-decade conflict.
Both sides pledged to respect the declaration and promised to ensure their subjects do same.
Interior minister Kwesi Awhoi, who saw to the signing of the declaration, said government is immediately going to build a police station at Alarvanyo and would help the factions to embark on activities that will engender a peaceful coexistence between them.
A football club, called Alankos United, has been established to start the process.
Meanwhile a statement released by the Interior Ministry said a combined team of police and military personnel has been sent to the two traditional areas to “contain the security breaches ongoing in the area.”
It added that the “6:00pm – 6:00am curfew is still in place [and that] anyone caught breaking it will be dealt with severely”.
