FIFA boss Joseph Sepp Blatter has paid a glowing tribute to the late Ghana President John Evans Atta Mills for his contribution to the game in the country.
The leader of football’s world governing body expressed his sadness over the death of Mills when he met Ghana FA boss Kwesi Nyantakyi in England on Sunday.
Nyantakyi, who is working for FIFA as a Match Commissioner at the ongoing Olympic Games in London, held a meeting with Mr Blatter on Sunday when the Swiss administrator expressed his condolences to the people of Ghana.
“It was with great sadness that I learnt of the passing of His Excellency John Evans Atta Mills,” Sepp Blatter told Nyantakyi at the meeting.
“I am completely shocked by this terrible news and the world football fraternity’s thoughts are with his wife, the family and the people of Ghana.
“Ghana has lost a great football supporter and a supporter of the development of the game in the country.
“I met him on some few occasions in Switzerland and South Africa and you could see his immense interest in football. Even more sadly is that he was a great man. He will be missed by all."
Blatter joins other key personalities in football like Issa Hayatou, the CAF President, who have expressed their sorrow over the ardent football follower’s passing.
The late Ghanaian leader served as a Board Chairman of Premier League side Hearts of Oak in the 1990s and was once a chairman of the Black Stars management committee.
Mills, 68, died on Tuesday at the 37 Military Hospital after being taken ill.
